Ride Profile (My Garmin)

The morning's briefing was a little sombre because the support van had been broken into overnight and two bikes stolen - one belonging to Mike from Bike Adventures and the other to Tim, one of our group. A report had to be given to the police, and new bikes found, especially for Tim.

Tony and Tony set off to buy water (and men's toiletries, they subsequently admitted), and I tagged along with a group of riders with whom we had occasionally been riding over the past few days. Our first coffee stop was relatively early, not least because it was a short day, at least as far as effort was concerned, if not distance. The sun was out, the restaurant and beach empty, and the coffee and biscuits worthwhile.

About an hour later we found an ideal place for lunch in the town of Anzio. There was plenty of choice and most had views of the marina.

From here almost to the end of the ride we followed kilometres of deserted beach front which evidently would get busy in the summer - lots of paid parking, but nobody here yet.

Somewhere along this stretch we found a bar which deserved our custom so we had another drink, and some found space for more food.

The riding was fast, picturesque and fairly safe, with most Italian motorists giving cyclists much more room than the typical Australian motorist (note that they drive on the right here, which is where we are being overtaken):

After taking a few wrong turns (due to poor route directions), we arrived at out hotel around 3:00pm, and naturally had another drink - beer all around , and then a G&T for me as well.
